There are certain areas of the body where fat deposits occur due to a genetic and familial predisposition. Overweight individuals are more prone to deposit fat in these areas. The areas involved are love handles, lower abdomen, double chin and upper arms. In these areas, the overlying skin is smooth.

However in some areas the skin over the fat can look uneven, dimpled, commonly described as “cottage cheese” texture. This is medically know as “Cellulite”. The lumpiness of cellulite is caused by fat deposits that push and distort the connective tissues beneath skin, leading to the characteristic changes in appearance of the skin. Cellulite is seen in women because of differences in the way fat, muscle, and connective tissue are distributed.

Treatments:

There are invasive, minimally invasive and non- invasive treatments available for the reduction of fat as well as cellulite.

In order to get optimal results from these treatments it is recommended that the patient be on a long term disciplined exercise and diet regimen.

It is important to remember that these methods are for targeted fat reduction along with body contouring and should not be confused with weight loss programme.
